Two short years ago, Patrick Frost was invited to be a part of the New York City team at Barry’s Bootcamp. Barry’s hand picks their trainers in order to maintain elite standards for every location. This opportunity helped Patrick to realize how lucrative a career in the fitness industry could be and he was thankful for the newfound direction his life seemed to be headed.
Knowing he had much to learn, Patrick wasted no time attending various certification and fitness training classes while teaching a handful of classes per week at Barry’s. That was until Thanksgiving of that year, when Patrick happily offered to cover multiple classes for instructors who were leaving own for the holiday. In that week, he went from only three classes to 27, and with the rapid change in workload and the stress it caused his body he wound up catching one of the many winter bugs that drift through the city. Too determined to let any bug beat him, Patrick kept teaching. He recalls the exact time at which his body had had enough. Teaching an afternoon class at the Barry’s Chelsea location, he felt a sharp pain in his stomach and knew he was mere moments from being sick right there. He cued his treaders to embark on a one minute endurance run, which he hoped would buy him enough time to make it to the changing room and back. He sprinted out of the studio, tossed his mic to the manager on duty with a frenzied “Cover for me!” and made it to the changing room just in time to appropriately succumb to the virus. He hurried back, however at that point his class had turned to anarchy and direction was lost. This experience motivated him to build up the endurance, knowledge, and expertise required of the country’s top fitness professionals, and from there he embarked on a journey of education and self-improvement.
I don’t mean to sound cheesy, but I really mean it when I say I have no idea where I would be if I was never offered this opportunity at Barry’s.
Fast forward two years later, and Patrick has not only risen to the level of Master Instructor, he is ranked as a favorite by Barry’s clients and independent fitness blogs nationwide. His tough, no B.S. approach stems from a genuine desire to ensure clients are executing proper form, enabling them to move successfully through his strenuous workouts without the risk of injury. His classes are not for the meek, as he demands the same full-throttle energy he gives every time.
I don’t speak about it unless I know about it.
Barry’s clients trust Patrick when it comes to fitness advice, as he makes a point of remaining in a constant state of learning. There is no such thing as a glass ceiling when it comes to fitness and wellness knowledge, and he holds the opinion that no fitness professional – or anyone for that matter – should ever stop broadening their education. Patrick backs up his wealth of knowledge with a bevy of certifications, certification with the American Association of Personal Trainers, TRX, and RehabEssentials to name a few. He is currently en route to being recognized as a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Patrick has an energy level that never seems to diminish. Next to fitness and fitness modeling, he has a thriving passion floating sky high performing with aerial silks. For as long as he could remember, he had dreams of moving to Australia to become an aerialist with Cirque du Soleil. After a chance meeting with legendary aerialist, Ben Mendoza, Patrick began to delve wholeheartedly into the craft, leveraging core strength and the flexibility he gained from years as an avid Karate student. “I can still do the splits,” he proudly proclaims.
With much success at a relatively early point in his career, Patrick is excited about what is to come and considers 2014 to be the continuation of everything he has worked to achieve thus far. No shortage of challenges, more certifications, and even a few new Barry’s timeslots! He is branching out from his infamous 12:30 pm classes in Chelsea, which have drawn a cult-like following, and is excited to work with the hard core fitness heads who brave the elements to attend the early morning bootcamps. If you haven’t yet, sign up for one of Patrick’s classes and see for yourself what all the hype is about!
