From the Runway to the Woodway – Spring Fitness Fashion Trends
by Casey Sharbaugh

Spring has officially sprung, and we’re back with another installment of our runway roundup from the spring 2016 fashion shows last fall.  While these trends were all first spotted on models in high fashion environments, we favor them on Barry’s athletes killing it on the floor and tread.  Being a fit fashionista (or fashionistO!) is far from an oxymoron these days thanks to the multitude of trendy athleisure brands on the market.  So even if you’re red-faced and wild-haired (mission accomplished!), you’ll look totally glam from the neck down.

‘70s

Certain trends are like perennial flowers (or the Tinder date you shouldn’t have swiped right on) – they just keep on coming back.  One of these is the ‘70s, seen at Jonathan Saunders and Rebecca Minkoff.

TRY:

The Upside Mirabella Yoga Pant ($117)

Adidas Firebird Track Jacket ($56)

Outdoor Voices Two-tone Flatiron Tee ($65)

X-TOPS

A criss-cross halter like the designs seen at Jason Wu and Derek Lam are arguably the best way to show off Barry’s-toned shoulders.  After all, what were those endless overhead presses for?!

TRY:

Fabletics Chicago Top ($55)

Heroine Sport X Tank ($125)

Mesh and Lace

Marchesa and Alexander Wang both took the less-is-more approach when it came to fabric, which works in our favor when it comes to sweaty workouts that require ventilation. And wait until you see the gorgeous Snapchat-worthy sweat pattern you leave on the mat.

TRY:

Barry’s Bootcamp Leather and Lace Collection

Adidas by Stella McCartney Studio Seamless Mesh Tank ($90)

South Beach Black Mesh Insert Legging ($34)

Under Armour Tech Mesh Shorts ($30)

Denim

Far from your standard skinny jeans, denim fabrics were shown off on various runways from Cushnie et Ochs to Suno.  While denim is certainly not what one thinks of in terms of a comfortable high-performance material, these variations fit the bill. Best for the athlete who want to be that “OMG, is she running in jeans???” girl.

TRY:

PRISMSPORT Track Pants ($88)

Outdoor Voices Weekender Sweats ($100)
