Editor’s note: Yes, we know this is a polarizing subject. As editors of the blog, we don’t take a position on this. Okay, that’s not entirely true. Our position on this is that you should live your best life, the way you see fit, as long as you don’t hurt anyone in the process. Gabby is a real person with a real opinion, and we support the full range of opinions on this subject with this one exception: we don’t support physical shaming or judgment of any kind. We are beautiful as we are, with or without makeup, and it’s the diversity of opinions that makes us even more so.
Do I wear makeup when I workout? Um, Duh. If I didn’t wear makeup when I worked out, I would never wear makeup! My entire life revolves around fitness (aka Barry’s Bootcamp), so I’m always sweating. But make no mistake, I’m also always wearing makeup. I like feeling good and I like not scaring people when I meet them, but I also like being able to walk out of a workout knowing I don’t have makeup smeared all over my face. Through trial and error, I have found my favorite, go-to products that are tried-and-true necessities. I’m all about those lazy girly-girl hacks, so I literally use these products every day and generally do the same-ish look as seen here. (Some major RBF happening. #oops)
It’s really all about skin (okay, okay and brows). There is almost nothing I love more than a beautiful, natural-looking dewy finish. The It Cosmetics CC+ Cream is giving me LIFE right now. I mix it with a little bit of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector and it creates the most flawless, airbrushed look. I can sweat in it without breaking out and I apply it with my fingertips making it super quick and easy. I then apply the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes, followed by a dusting of the Make Up Forever High Definition Powder which sets everything and keeps it in place throughout the day. Last but not least, I use the Bare Escentuals Highlighter/Blush as a little contour and on the apples of my cheeks for color. [Editor’s note: we are also big fans of the Katherine line for workout beauty products. We especially love the K-Sport WOW stick.]
BROWS! The right color, the right consistency – figuring this shit out ain’t for the weak! Luckily my Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade is the most genius thing ever created. It’s water repellent and has a thicker consistency, with the most perfect ashy-brown hue. I can be dripping in sweat and my brows won’t move an inch. It’s freaking amazing. You also don’t have to be a makeup artist to apply it, just use a stiff angled brush to sweep it through your brows. After I brush it on, I go over it with my Tweezerman Brow Shaping Brush to make sure it’s even and doesn’t look overdone. #BrowsOnFleek #NowImJustEmbarrassingMyself
I also love the MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot for evening out my eyelids and keeping shadows in place, regardless of the amount of sweat dripping off of my face.
Who would have thought I would end up a gloss girl? But what can I say, I’m into it! The NYX Butter Gloss is pigmented and glossy without being too sticky. I found the Vanilla Cream Pie first, but when I got the Tiramisu I knew it was true love. It’s seriously the most low-maintenance lip color ever, and THAT is something I’m down for.
I never know if I should tell someone when they have mascara running down their face after class. And that feeling after you look in the mirror and think about all of the people you saw and spoke to…. DEAD. We’ve all been there, and Lord have mercy, I am NOT making that mistake twice. Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Splashes is a game changer, creating long, dark lashes that you could go swimming with. A good eyelash curler and Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner is also a gym kit must-have. The Tattoo Liner lives up to it’s name, and won’t budge until you take it off. It’s super easy to apply and is a dark black color that can sometimes be hard to get from a liquid liner. I have repurchased both the mascara and the liner multiple times which is REALLY saying something!
So trust me when I tell you, wearing makeup to the gym is totally a thing and I’m totally into it.
