From the Runway to the Woodway – Spring Fitness Fashion Trends
by Casey Sharbaugh

Spring has officially sprung, and we’re back with another installment of our runway roundup from the spring 2016 fashion shows last fall.  While these trends were all first spotted on models in high fashion environments, we favor them on Barry’s athletes killing it on the floor and tread.  Being a fit fashionista (or fashionistO!) is far from an oxymoron these days thanks to the multitude of trendy athleisure brands on the market.  So even if you’re red-faced and wild-haired (mission accomplished!), you’ll look totally glam from the neck down. ‘70s Certain trends are like perennial flowers (or the Tinder date you shouldn’t have swiped right on) – they just keep on coming back.  One of these is the ‘70s, seen Read More

Barry’s Babe Mariah Reddick

Editor’s Note: We are proud beyond words of all of our clients who put in the work to change their lives, and we are always honored when they allow us to celebrate their achievements on our blog. But sometimes a story comes along that inspires us even more than usual and humbles us in the face of true strength and character. This is one of those stories. Here’s is Mariah Reddick’s experience, in her own words. I’ve realized I’m nearing the one year anniversary of the first time I stepped foot in a gym called Barry’s and have been thinking a lot about where I was this time last year. Much has changed in that year. Cliff’s Notes version of Read More

Gym Makeup?

Gym Makeup?
by Gabby De Nigris

Editor’s note: Yes, we know this is a polarizing subject. As editors of the blog, we don’t take a position on this. Okay, that’s not entirely true. Our position on this is that you should live your best life, the way you see fit, as long as you don’t hurt anyone in the process. Gabby is a real person with a real opinion, and we support the full range of opinions on this subject with this one exception: we don’t support physical shaming or judgment of any kind. We are beautiful as we are, with or without makeup, and it’s the diversity of opinions that makes us even more so.   Do I wear makeup when I workout? Um, Duh. If I Read More

Behind the Mic: Matt Conrad

Welcome to the latest installment of Behind the Mic, where we ask some of your favorite trainers the awkward questions so you don’t have to. It’s time for LA trainer Matt Conrad to take the hot seat. Barry’s: Why did you decide to join the Barry’s family? Matt: I’d heard so much about it being in the fitness industry, and when I moved to L.A., my first goal was try to be a part of the team. B: What do you enjoy most about training? M: The best thing about training is helping people reach their goals. Whether it’s losing weight, gaining muscle or just getting a healthier lifestyle, it’s amazing to be a part of their journey. B:  Do Read More

Barry’s Babe: Priyanka Shahani
by Priyanka Shahani

Name: Priyanka Shahani Occupation: Executive Search/Headhunting in Retail & Leisure Age: 24 Height: 5 ft. 3 Home Base: Barry’s Central & East (London) Having always been petite as a child, I was not happy with the weight I very quickly gained when I moved to the UK for boarding school and university. All the tequila shots and late night pizzas while studying took a serious toll on my body, on top of the fact that my family and I have always been keen foodies. Peaking at almost 80 kg (176 pounds), I began my weight loss journey around March 2012, during my final year of university. I started off with strict calorie restrictions and long cardio sessions, five days a Read More

What Your Trainer Orders at the Fuel Bar

What Your Trainer Orders at the Fuel Bar

(Above: Trainer Matt Nolan and NYC Area Fuel Bar Manager Sean McCall)   You’ve heard it a million times before (and here comes number one million and one): after a workout, you need protein. Your muscles are made of protein, and a vigorous workout tears the muscle fibers. Protein provides the amino acids necessary to repair your muscles (and to help them grow), as well as blocking cortisol, a hormone responsible for breaking down muscle further. You also need carbohydrates after your workout, to replenish your body’s energy stores. Lucky for you, a protein shake from the Fuel Bar just happens to be full of protein and healthy carbohydrates! But which to order – the options are mind-boggling. So to Read More

Paleo Crusted Chicken Recipe

Paleo Crusted Chicken Recipe
by Rebecca Kennedy

I love a crispy chicken every so often. The downside is the fried food leaving your stomach a complete mess. I immediately get sick and have to “reset” my body for several days following. I decided to take a crack at making a version of crispy chicken that doesn’t upset my stomach. This is still a “pan fried” dish, I use grapeseed oil in the pan or coconut oil (depending on how tropical I want my dish to taste). Great ratio of macros (protein, carbs and fat) to complement a well-rounded day of exercise. This won’t leave you overly stuffed, but satisfies the savory tooth with the truffle and cheese; as well as the sweet tooth, with the honey. If Read More

Great Balls of Chocolate!
by Gabby De Nigris

Proof that chocolate is good for you – here’s a trainer-created sweet treat recipe from San Francisco trainer and blogger Gabby de Nigris. It’s only four ingredients, vegan and paleo, and super easy (and super yummy). And we’re super happy to have Gabby as the newest contributor to the Barry’s blog. Am I a genius? I’m not sure, but I’m starting to think the answer is yes. After all, I did create this insanely delicious and nutritious Chocolate Ball recipe!! This recipe has been a work in progress for a long time, and was just finally perfected. It originally called for coconut oil, but because I try to avoid oil at all costs (read more on that here), I was Read More
